Lisa Powell

Dr. Powell is Professor and Division Director of Health Policy and Administration at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) School of Public Health, Director of the Illinois Prevention Research Center, and Associate Director of the Health Policy Center at UIC.

Dr. Powell earned her PhD from Queens University in Kingston, Ontario.

Dr. Powell has published and presented numerous papers in the area of labor economics. Recently, her research has focused on the economics of health. Much of Dr. Powell’s current work focuses on the impact of economic and environmental factors (such as food prices and access to food stores, restaurants, and parks, gyms and other facilities) on physical activity and obesity. Her work has contributed to policy debates on sugary drink taxes and child-directed marketing. Dr. Powell’s research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the USDA, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
