Rudd Alumni: Mary Himmelstein, PhD
Dr. Mary Himmelstein is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychological Sciences at Kent State University, and was formerly a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Rudd Center working with Deputy Director Dr. Rebecca Puhl.
Dr. Himmelstein earned her Ph.D. in Social Psychology and Intradisciplinary Health Psychology from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, in 2016. Her research explores the multifaceted ways in which biospsychosocial mechanisms interact to influence health and disease processes with a particular focus on the roles of identity, stress, and coping on cardiometabolic diseases.
At the Rudd Center, Dr. Himmelstein’s examines the roles of self-perception, intersecting identities, coping strategies, and physiological consequences of weigh stigma in disease processes.
