Rudd Alumni: Maia Hyary
Maia Hyary is a PhD candidate in Social Policy at Brandeis University. Her dissertation examines how the stress of managing household food insecurity contributes to obesity among women with children. Her research also focuses on the role of stress in the intergenerational transmission of food insecurity.
As a Research Associate at the Rudd Center from 2013-2018, Maia worked with Director Marlene Schwartz to evaluate a public health campaign to limit sugary drink consumption in Howard County, Maryland. As a member of the center’s Food Marketing team, she worked with Marketing Initiatives Director Jennifer Harris to study the marketing of snacks in schools, targeted marketing to Hispanic youth online, and the implementation of healthier kids’ meal pledges in fast food restaurants. Maia completed her Master’s of Public Administration in Health Policy Analysis from New York University’s Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service.
