Faculty and Staff: Mary Himmelstein, PhD
Dr. Mary Himmelstein is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Rudd Center for Food Policy & Obesity at the University of Connecticut, working with Deputy Director Dr. Rebecca Puhl.
Dr. Himmelstein earned her Ph.D. in Social Psychology and Intradisciplinary Health Psychology from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, in 2016. Her research explores the multifaceted ways in which biospsychosocial mechanisms interact to influence health and disease processes with a particular focus on the roles of identity, stress, and coping on cardiometabolic diseases.
At the Rudd Center, Dr. Himmelstein’s examines the roles of self-perception, intersecting identities, coping strategies, and physiological consequences of weigh stigma in disease processes.
